Victory at Last! Part I

Published by Gus at 11:10 am under Primary Campaign 08

Barack Obama did what everyone said was impossible a year ago, he beat Hillary Clinton for the nomination. Remember the “inevitability” of Clinton’s candidacy? How Obama was 30 points down in all the polling, how African-Americans didn’t think he could win and were supporting Clinton overwhelmingly, how she had vastly more money than he? Ah yes, so much can change in a year.

I was at my Democracy for American training this weekend in Lansing, or I certainly would have watched her speech and blogged on Saturday. I did get to see it and almmost feel out of my chair when she said she endorsed Obama and would work her heart out to elect him. She even said “Yes we can!” I was thinking, wait, seriously, where is the real Hillary Clinton? Who’s this imposter speaking? Honestly, it was a very good speech so I applaud her on that. Hopefully, we’ve heard the last from her for a good long time. There will be no Clinton VP no matter how much the press wants to speculate on it.

Its almost like a huge feeling of relief is sweeping over me. My candidate has never been the Dmeocratic nominee before, so this is a new experience for me. Definitely feels great for a change. I almost don’t know what to blog about now that the primary (all 6 months of it) is over.

I say, Victory Part I because victory will only be truly complete with an Obama win in November. Its going to be long and hard work, even more so than the primary. But now I can move on to comparing McCain and Obama, and there are some very stark differences, so it should be a good time.

OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER.

McCain had better step it up fast—his speech last week was so comically pitiful that at this point it looks like he could get seriously electorally embarrassed. I almost feel sorry for him. Then again, it’s a long time until November. At least we can talk about some issues again, as you say.
