Way to Oregon! Bringin’ it Home for Obama!

Published by Gus at 8:25 am under Primary Campaign 08

Obama now has won the majority of the pledged (elected) delegates. The only way Clinton could now win is to basically “steal” the election from the voters by having the Suuuuuperdelegates vote in her favor. Since they have been going to Obama by a rate of about 80% since Feb 4, that seems highly unlikely anyway. Current State of the race:

Delegates: Pledged Super Total Needed
Obama 1,656.5 304.5 1,961 64
Clinton 1,501.5 277.5 1,779 246
Remaining 86 214 300

As you can see, its virtually impossible for Clinton to win and get to the magic number of 2026.

Latest polling looks great for Obama:

Reuters has it Obama 59% - 33% over Clinton and 47% - 37% over McCain. Great news! (Again, these GE polls are just a snapshot in time so I don’t put much faith in them, but its always better to be ahead than behind. As is the line, a week in politics is like a year in life.)

Also, watch May 31 because that is the day the DNC Rules Committee meets to decide on the MI/FL situation. Everything I have heard indicates that there is virtually no chance the delegations will be seated according to the full results. The full delegation numbers will probably be cut in half, if not more. I don’t know if they will split the delegates 50/50 or what. But Hillary better stop thinking she speaks for me and a lot of other Michigan voters. She said we want our votes counted, well, my candidate wasn’t on the ballot so how can you count my vote? Had she followed the rules, she wouldn’t have been on the ballot either.

Her campaign keeps blathering about how they have now won the most popular vote, which is complete nonsense on the face of it. I can’t understand how these smart people can honestly make this completely disingenuous argument about the popular vote. The only reason they can do that, is to claim that Obama got zero votes in Michigan, and that voters in Iowa, Nevada, Maine and Washington don’t count. I don’t know who they are trying to make that argument to, but the Superdelegates sure as heck are pretty smart people who aren’t going to buy that for a second.

Woot! Obama almost has enough delegates to be able to say “sure, whatever” about MI and FL and still be ahead. O haste the day! (Although what will we laugh at when finally deprived of Hillary’s ridiculous “arguments”?)
