Political Discussions galore await you here!
As an avid fan of politics for most of my life, it seemed logical to finally start actually writing about my thoughts and trying to spur some debate and maybe even some action. The last eight years of this awful, law-breaking administration have left this country in two wars, a recession and sick of having a president who invents his own reality.
I was excited about this election, even more so after the results in 2006 when the Republicans lost control of Congress. However, the effect of that has been minimal, at least when it comes to ending out adventure in Iraq. In 2004, I was a huge Howard Dean fan because of his honesty, outspokenness and willingness to stand up for many of the same principles that I believe in. Obviously, it didn’t work out. John Kerry–not as good.
In 2008, what gets me most excited is that finally we have a candidate that people can support and build a movement of change around, from the ground up. Many people felt the last couple elections were more like choosing the lesser of two evils; it wasn’t so much supporting someone, it was not liking the other person more.
I am proud and excited to fully support Barack Obama this year. I truly believe he is this country’s best hope for the future, if we want a new path, a new way, a brighter day. Yes, he gives great speeches because inspiring people to do great things is important, but he also has very detailed plans and ideas on how to make positive change happen for the people in this country who need it most. Obama 2008!

I guess I have a lot of catching up to do regarding the postings on this blog to-date. I might as well start with this one; the first one. There is at least one question that nags at me from this specific critique, and that is an acknowledgement; by anyone; of any party; of an actual “law breaking administration” occurrance that was brought to court and guilt established. I’m quite sure that if there were even one that the opposition party would be all over it and heads would be called for. Perhaps you can clarify your statement with an actual example; just one would be sufficient to prove the allegation. Hmmmmmm, I’m waiting; good luck.
Since when do opposite party members need proof or logic to state their case as fact? Let’s not blur the lines with details now. Let the mud-slinging begin!
Yes, your right! Why base decisions on facts? It’s more fun to be swayed by innuendo and slightly true; or slightly false; misconceptions and half-truths. After all, politicians do define their words from a different dictionary, right? Thanks for bringing me back to the reality of the situation.
I can give factual crimes that the Bush Administration has committed:
1. Scooter Libby: found guilty by a jury for obstruction of justice (protecting Cheney, Rove etc..the people who leaked the name of a CIA operative in revenge for her husband writing an editorial about the false evidence being presented about Iraq and uranium)
Now here are some other factual examples, though not actually brought to court:
1. Bush authorized torture (this has been admitted, waterboarding did happen) in direct violation of the Convention against Torture and Geneva Conventions
2. The wiretapping and collection of emails, phone records, etc…without a warrant. This is specifically prohibited by the 4th Amendment (see previous blog post)
3. Bush issuing “signing statements” claiming some unknown authority to decline to follow parts of laws he doesn’t like
4. Establishment of secret prisons by the CIA
So there are just a few, all born out by FACTS. I don’t make this stuff up.
No recession yet.
